Yoga and I is a ‘love at first sweat’ affair that began when I took my first yoga class in 2001 and immediately fell in love with the practice. I loved the movements, the grace and challenges of the asanas (poses). I also greatly enjoyed the sense of peace and well being in my mind and body that surrounded me during and after the practice.
This passion eventually led me to complete my 250-hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training program in 2009 under the guidance of Wanda Hewitt.
I was still undertaking my teacher training and practicing yoga when I got pregnant with my first child. I soon realised however that yoga was a great holistic and gentle support that helped me ride the waves of the many transformations my body was undergoing throughout and the whole pregnancy, all the way to labour, childbirth and post-partum.
Every pregnancy is different from one woman to another and from one pregnancy to another but, for me and for both pregnancies, I felt that Yoga gave me more strength, awareness and peace of mind throughout and my body recovered faster after giving birth thanks to the combination of Yoga and specific pelvic floor exercises.
Therefor, appreciating all the tremendous benefits of yoga during my pregnancies, I felt motivated to further my knowledge and complete different Pre- and Post-natal Yoga Teacher Trainings with Janice Clarfield (2010), Marina Locke (2010), Dr. Jean Byrne and Michelle Pappa (2013) to help other mums-to-be with this fantastic journey that is pregnancy and childbirth.
Fascinated with the human body and the therapeutic benefits of yoga, and inspired by Ellen Heed, with whom I studied functional anatomy, I am currently studying to be a certified Yoga Therapist (by the International Association of Yoga Therapists).
I am very grateful and feel honored to share my passion and experience of yoga and to offer pre and postnatal yoga support to all mums-to-be and new mums through Karin and her team at Wellness and Birth.
